With less than two weeks to go until the world premiere of her new short Mindless at FrightFest Glasgow, British director Katie Bonham appeared on Chattering With Nicholas Vince on Sunday to talk to the Hellraiser star about her career up to this point, the projects they’ve worked on together and what’s influenced her, including some interesting points on the British social realism drama films that have informed her work.
The 80 minute conversation looks ahead to Vince’s upcoming directorial debut The Night Whispered, on which Bonham served as assistant director, and covers the multiple projects they’ve collaborated on together, including Mark Logan’s Rats, Andy Stewart’s Remnant and, of course, Mindless itself, in which Vince stars.
I first came across Katie’s work at the world premiere of her third short The Paper Round last year and found it to be a minimal but profoundly affecting examination of grief and guilt that marked her out as a genuinely exciting talent. I’ve since caught up with her previous work (Doll and Shortcuts to Hell finalist The Porcelain Ground) and from a personal standpoint, I’m as excited to see Mindless as I am any of the features that are running over the festival weekend in Glasgow.
You can watch Katie’s appearance on the show here, and whether you’re a fan, a newcomer or just interested in what it takes to get yourself established as a filmmaker, I recommend you do.
Mindless screens alongside the film Anguish at the Glasgow Film Theatre on Friday February 26th at 3.40pm. Tickets for this screening can be purchased in person from the GFT Box Office, or at this link.
